The Sparks Journal can accommodate the presentation of audio media by embedding single or multi-track recordings as shown below.

General Guidelines for Audio Media

Audio files can be formatted using the .MP3 or the .AAC file standard and should have a bitrate of at least 128 kbps but no higher than 256 kbps. Audio files will be embedded using an audio player built into the Sparks Journal website. Below is an example taken from The Library of Congress collection titled “Voices From the Days of Slavery”. This segment is an interview with former slave Fountain Hughes in Baltimore Maryland on June 11, 1949. The entire “Voices From the Days of Slavery” project is in the public domain. It was an undertaking that began as part of the Federal Writers’ Project (FWP) of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s.

Multimedia content that is not the original work of the submitting author will not be published unless the author has explicit permission to do so or the work is in the public domain. Submission of transcripts, sheet music, or lyrics for audio recordings is encouraged.
