Mind Consumes Body; Body Consumes Mind
August 2015
Mind Consumes Body; Body Consumes Mind is a series of paintings based on the issues of body image disorders and eating disorders. I chose this topic because it is so relevant in today’s society and is also something very personal to me. During my research process, I observed my peers and how they talked about their bodies and compared themselves to unrealistic ideals. I noticed how these ideals affected their behaviors towards food, activity, and themselves. I also watched a British documentary called Superskinny vs. Supersized. With this knowledge I created a series of paintings that expand on the mental struggle that occurs when someone deals with these problems. My paintings reach out to others, showing what I have discovered about eating disorders and body image disorders.
